The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has optimistically revealed that the Commonwealth Heads of State Meeting (CHOGM) that was postponed due to COVID19 will resume next year as the pandemic; the main cause of adjournment is nearly defeated.
During a press conference, the minister of foreign affairs, Dr Vincent Biruta confirmed that dialogues are underway between Rwanda and country members of Commonwealth to resume the meeting that was supposed to take place from 22-27 June 2020, but postponed due to COVID-19.
It was rescheduled in August 2020 but the pandemic persisted and it adjourned again.
“We have started dialogue with other Commonwealth members so that we resume the meeting early next year. We came up with idea of scheduling it next year depending on the covid-19, vaccines status, the probability of postponing it again is very low “He said.
CHOGM postponement has negatively affected many sectors especially, business owners who had planned ahead hoping to receive visitors, but in vain.
For the status of numbers of vaccinated citizens will be the basement of resuming the meeting, more than 2,719,744 Rwandans are fully vaccinated as 4,940121 have taken first doses.
