William Ruto: ‘’Kenya is not going to get involved in blame games & finger pointing’’

During an interview with Al Jazeera this Saturday, September 24, 2022, speaking on the search for peace in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo, William Ruto, the Kenyan Head of State said that his country is also committed to supporting the Nairobi process, but he stressed that his country will not get engaged in the blame games.

“I had the opportunity to discuss with President Tshisekedi and also with Kagame, and President Kagame had been fourth right that they have nothing to do with the M23. There are other people who think otherwise but we do not want to engage ourselves in blame games and finger pointing. We have to get our hands on it and sought out the issues, and the good thing is that both President Kagame and Felix Tshisekedi are all committed to ensuring that we solve this problem as a region. ” he indicated.

Felix Tshisekedi, the president of the Democratic Republic of Congo

Before the General Assembly of the united nations, the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo had emphasized that despite his goodwill and the outstretched hand of the Congolese people for peace, some of their neighbors have found nothing better than to thank them with belligerence and support for armed terrorist groups that are ravaging the eastern DRC.

“This is currently the case of Rwanda which, in defiance of international law, the UN Charter and the Constitutive Act of the African Union, has, once again, not only attacked, last March, the DRC by direct incursions of its armed forces, the RDF, but also occupied areas in the province of North Kivu by an interposed armed terrorist group, the Movement of March 23 known as M23, to which it brings a massive support both in war material and troops. And, even to defy the international community, the M23 with the support of the Rwandan army shot down a MONUSCO helicopter and killed 8 contingents, thus committing a war crime”. He stressed.

Paul Kagame, the president of the Republic of Rwanda

During his speech, the President of Rwanda Paul Kagame on the subject of the accusations related to the wars in the east of the DRC, he underlined that: “There is an urgent need to find political will to finally address the root causes of the instability in eastern DRC. The blame game does not solve problems.”

Like his predecessor, President William Ruto has said that his government will commit resources and personnel to ensure that by working together with other partners this process can move forward,  “To stabilize eastern DRC and also to curb the challenge of insecurity and extremism that accompanies instability in our neighborhood” he explained,.

Uhuru Kenyatta’s successor clarified that his country will not engage in “blame games and naming the culprits”, but rather to get involved and solve the problems. He added.

The initiative was from the former President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta. Kinshasa, which accuses Kigali of supporting the M23 rebels, has already refused the presence of Rwanda in this regional force.

The relationship between Rwanda and the DRC has soured since the resurgence of the M23 rebels and the occupation of the city of Bunagana by the latter, since June 13, 2022.
